Many of the difficulties that lead to people seeking therapy have built up over time and/or are connected to different aspects of themselves and how they understand the world and other people. As such, it usually takes time to explore the problem, to understand what is going on, and to take steps to change what is not working or to develop new skills.

The number of sessions or length of the psychotherapy process depends on the person, the nature of the problems, the goals of treatment, as well as time and financial parameters. In general, brief psychotherapy is between 6 – 8 sessions, short-term psychotherapy is 12 – 24 sessions, and long-term psychotherapy is conducted over several months or years. If you have any queries about how long you will need to attend therapy, you can discuss these with me in the first session.
